On June 4, 2012, housing officials in Sacramento, California began accepting online applications for the waiting list of the Housing Choice Voucher Program. This program helps low-income individuals and families to find subsidized rental homes and apartments in Sacramento County.
Under the voucher program, low-income resident typically pay landlords about 30 percent of their income toward rent and utilities in apartments or homes that fall within SHRA's financial guidelines. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through the housing authority, pays the difference.
The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, which is opening the list for the first time in six years, will randomly pick 3,000 applicants to join other elderly, disabled and low-income people seeking housing help.
A confirmation receipt will be issued immediately after the application is submitted.
The application can be filled out online at www.sacwaitlist.com.
